Norvik Nightingale Non-Emergency transportation for differently abled patients

The non-emergency ambulance or medical transportation (NEMT) was operationalized in 2018 and is for patients who cannot rely on regular transport services due to disability, injury or an acute or chronic condition.

NEMT is a service that offers transportation to individuals who have more needs than can be fulfilled through routine transportation. It remains a crucial service that many people rely on.

The reasons for NEMT can be as follows;
  • Those requiring oxygen therapy or other medical treatment while being transported
  • Need to remain immobile to prevent worsening an injury or movable by stretcher or wheelchair
  • Need assistance for pick and drop
  • Regular medical treatments such as dialysis and chemotherapy
  • Limited access to transportation in rural areas
  • Currently on medication that makes it unsafe and illegal to get behind the wheel
